Job Title: Manufacturing and Process Engineer (full-time)

Team: The technical team at Bert Thin Films is currently optimizing the paste formulation and automating and scaling the manufacturing of the materials and paste. The team is also developing the standard operating procedures for screen printing and firing the pastes. This is a very agile technical team that is ready to take on challenges as they arise.

Position Description: Bert Thin Films, LLC is seeking a manufacturing and process engineer to join the technical team to assist with designing, sourcing, installing and operating the equipment needed to scale-up the materials used in the paste, as well as implementing safety, regulatory and inventory controls. This individual will work closely with the QA Chemist in order to scale up the materials. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed. Some travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • design, source and implement an automated controller for the synthesis of materials;

  • design, specify and install equipment as needed to support the technical team;

  • implement safety, regulatory and inventory controls for the paste;

  • collaborate within the technical team and communicate results and ideas verbally;

  • identify and pick up slack from other technical team members as needed;

  • identify opportunities to improve process flow and yield;

  • work with the QA Chemist for implementing protocols;

  • become involved with field trials and startup of operations;

  • partner with key stakeholders to improve product quality and price; and

  • assist with the design of experiments and carrying out the experiments.

 

Skills Needed:

  • Minimum BS degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical) or equivalent and 5 years of related experience, or MS and 3 years related experience, or PhD;

  • Able to work effectively within a competent technical team;

  • Experience with the design and installation of control equipment;

  • Hands-on experience with material synthesis/formulation, equipment engineering or related fields;

  • Able to identify, analyze and solve complex problems quickly using appropriate approaches;

  • Competency with statistical process control and experimental methods;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal and external individuals through various channels.
