Scalability of CuBert™
The Bert Thin Films, Inc. team has demonstrated the scalability of the CuBert™ paste to larger volumes using industry-standard equipment. A 25 kg scaled batch of CuBert™ was successfully achieved, and the roadmap towards batches exceeding 100 kg is well-defined.

The CuBert™ paste consists of inorganic powders and organic binders, viscosity modifiers and solvent. The scaleup involves the high shear mixing of the organics followed by the combination of the organics and inorganics in a planetary mixer and homogenized in a mill. This final step is shown in figure 1.

The overall process yields a paste with a shear thinning profile. Figure 2 shows an image of a fine line CuBert™ print, demonstrating compatibility with industry standard screens. CuBert™ is compatible with industry-standard screens and has been demonstrated using 20-micron fine lines.

CuBert™ is poised to transform the industry with a low-cost metallization paste. The team at Bert Thin Films has demonstrated that this product can be manufactured at a scale to support the industry.
